“Almost every time I interact with my new boss, I find myself saying or doing something “stupid” that creates a very uncomfortable situation for her, me and even our coworkers. I find I can’t seem to keep my mouth shut, especially when it comes to disagreeing with her thought processes around the work we do (we are nurses). While I understand it takes time to get used to someone new on your team (especially someone who is responsible for leading the team), it has been several months and I haven’t been able to find common ground with her. I have tried to talk with her about it, but she doesn’t acknowledge that there’s even a problem. I need my job, but this is becoming unbearable to deal with on a daily basis. Help!”
HR4Employees thoughts on this issue:
We can see why the employee has come to HR4Employees on this issue. All too many times, their current HR department might have categorized this as a typical “II hate my boss” complaint, but there may be some actual issues here that HR is either ignoring on purpose (I.e. there was no other choice for the manager of this team) or they don’t have enough experience/practice to pick up on or help with.
The main indicators that tell HR4Employees that isn’t a typical “I hate my manager complaint” and that the employee needs some help:
- The employee’s disagreements with their manager are thought processes around their work vs highlighting a character flaw in their manager.
- The employee has reasonable expectations for the timeframe for getting used to a change on the team
- The employee has tried to talk with their manager about it (but the manager didn’t acknowledge there was a problem)
HR4Employees can definitely help with issues like this! Do you have a similar situation? Schedule a free phone consultation with us now.
